Travel security is a serious issue that most people don’t take seriously as they channel their excitement for their vacation! Luggage safety really depends on its ability to stay locked – and since there’s wide scale corruption with airport luggage handlers, much less society in general, you will want to make sure that your luggage is secure when you travel. Here’s a guide, from the security experts at Top Locksmiths, on how to keep your luggage protected as you travel.
Proper Bag Locks
Don’t get a TSA endorsed lock – usually the bolt is inferior and these can be broken into extremely easily. Get a high security luggage lock. Make sure it fits your suitcase, and that it can be attached tightly, but allows the TSA to access it. If you can’t get a lock, at least get zip ties or tape tags to fasten your bag – so you know if it’s been tampered with.
Keep an eye on your luggage
Try to make sure that you’re aware where your luggage is as much as possible. If you’re traveling with others, ask them to keep an eye on it if you’re sleeping or going to the bathroom. Never leave luggage unattended, and try to take turns with bathroom trips so as to protect the luggage. If you see someone trying to take your luggage, chase them down or call out for help.
Hotel Lockers Aren’t Safe
Some hotels have lockers that allow for keeping your belongings “safe” however most employees of these businesses know the master codes by heart, or even know how to bounce safes. This makes these lockers and safes insecure – we recommend keeping all truly valuable items securely on your person.
