Ten Places To Hide Your Spare Key

keysss

It’s handy to have an extra key hidden somewhere, in case you forget your keys or lose them. Hiding a key under the doormat is too obvious, though. It’s the first place someone trying to break in will look. Here are ten good places to hide your spare key.

In the Garden

An intruder will not want to look obvious by thrashing through the shrubbery. Hide a key in a plastic bag and bury it near a landmark only you will know.

In the Dog House

No one trying to sneak in will risk calling attention to himself by approaching your dog. Hide a key in the dog house.

Inside a Patio Cushion

If your patio cushions have zip-off covers, you can easily hide a key inside one.

Behind a Metal Object

Do you have a lawn sculpture made of metal? Perhaps you have a metal shed in the back yard or a metal stand for the garden hose. A magnetic plastic box, the kind that holds car keys, will work to hide a house key and keep it dry in an outdoor hiding place.

On Top of a Beam

Leaving a key on top of the door frame is another obvious place. Be more subtle by leaving a key on top of a beam under the roof of the porch or car port. You can also hang the key from a hook behind one of the beams.

Under the Mulch

A key in a plastic bag can be buried under the mulch along your front walk. Just don’t forget where you buried it.

Under the Deck Stairs

Install a small hook in a hard-to-reach spot under your wood porch or deck stairs. Pick a spot that is hidden from sight but that you can reach easily.

With a Neighbor

It can be very reassuring to know someone else has a copy of your key. Pick someone you trust, of course, such as a good neighbor or a relative who lives nearby. All you have to do is phone the person to get hold of your key.

Between Two Bricks

Find a small chink in a brick wall, outdoor fireplace or other brick structure. Slide a key into the space. Just be sure it’s easy to retrieve. The key will be very hard to spot.

On Your Car

You can hide an extra car key under the auto in a magnetic box. Why not an extra house key? That way no one searching your property will find it, no matter how hard he looks.
There are many more possibilities for spare key hiding places. These ideas can spark an inspiration for your own creative place to hide a spare key.
